Wedding Story
• COUNTRY HOUSE Ardtara is an elegantly decorated Victorian country house with well-proportioned rooms, antique furnishings and fresh flowers - and, with a choice of churches in the area and wedding blessings possible at Ardtara, it makes a lovely venue. Beautiful, well maintained gardens surround the house and offer plenty of romantic photo opportunities. A wedding planning service is offered - this involves meeting with the bride and groom to go through the choice of menus (where there is extreme flexibility), and also to discuss the decor and any special requirements, including entertainment, flower arrangements and - an unusual service - decorative ice sculpture. Any kind of transport can be arranged, including a helicopter and a coach for guests and beauty treatments and hairdressing can be arranged at the house. There is no venue hire charge unless the party wants exclusivity of the house, which costs £800 - in effect it is likely that all eight bedrooms will be taken anyway, and staying in these large, luxuriously furnished bedrooms with king size beds and views of the garden and surrounding countryside will add greatly to the sense of occasion. The chef at Ardtara enjoys a challenge and, in addition to offering a highly innovative canapâ? buffet (from £20 per person) and a choice of imaginative menus, there is an option of having a gala ceremony of serving whole stuffed suckling pigs, served in English style from mirror trolleys. The reception is held in different rooms depending on the numbers - the dining room (previously a snooker room and still with the full Victorian skylight and original hunting frieze - and now also with a grand piano) seats up to 70 and there is a private dining room seating 18; for larger numbers a marquee is required, seating up to 140. The wedding cake can be made for you, and may be served as the final course if ordered in-house. Ardtara would make an excellent base for a break in this area of natural beauty.
