The business was established in 2012 by Paul Hayday and Tim Ingles, who had previously led Sotheby's musical instrument department.
Ingles & Hayday holds two musical instrument auctions every year at Sotheby’s in London for a global market and have overseen the sale of world-famous instruments by Stradivari and Guarneri del Gesù. They also offer a private sale service for clients looking to buy or sell fine instruments and bows.
Ingles & Hayday are official consultants to Sotheby's which no longer maintains an in-house musical instrument department. They deal with all relevant inquiries for Sotheby's as well as providing valuations fine and rare stringed instruments and bows at Sotheby’s offices around the world. They also offer private clients valuations for cellos, violins, violas and bows for insurance, sale or probate, and certificates of authenticity.
