Think work iscontracted out, the finish on our staircase was not good initially, there were holes left between newel post and wall, gaps around plaster, scratched brass brackets, fillers used instead of plugs, uneven joins/ends and no endstops fitted. After call to JG the men came back out and fixed most of the snags but for the money involved the workmanship is very definitely not top class
