The function of UPP is to eliminate dysfunctional/misfolded proteins via the proteasome, and these speciļ¬c functions enable the UPP to regulate protein quality in cells. Therefore defects in UPP are expected to disturb cellular homeostasis and are detrimental to cell survival.
