Falmouth is Cornwall’s leading south west coast resort and home to the County’s maritime heritage. Here you will find the third deepest natural harbour in the world, a creative buzz with many art galleries, sandy golden beaches, world-class watersports, spectacular scenery, maritime history, specialist shops from local art to antiques and exceptional sailing in Carrick Roads and the Fal Estuary.
Falmouth made the 2018 Sunday Times Great Places To Live list, with the paper citing its “four fine beaches” and “(EU-funded) speedy broadband”, declaring it an “all-season arty-party town” – while crediting Falmouth’s renaissance to “the rapid expansion of the university”.
The main street runs close to the water, so most of the buildings along its west side have views on to one of the prettiest harbours in the country, framed by two historic landmarks, Pendennis and St Mawes, Henry VIII's twin castles, both of which can be visited all year.
There’s a relentless calendar of events, from the International Sea Shanty Festival in late June to the Oyster Festival, with its legendary speed-shucking contest, in October.
